Reading

This fortnight, Year 6 students have continued reading their class novel study of Two Wolves by Tristan Bancks. Students have been developing their vocabulary skills by identifying and unpacking difficult vocabulary, using context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words, and exploring how authors use descriptive and figurative language to create imagery and meaning.

We have also been revisiting the structure of narratives, identifying the rising action and complications, recognising the climax, and examining how stories reach their resolutions and outcomes. These skills have supported students in developing a deeper understanding of the novel and how authors build suspense and engage their readers.

Students designed their own surveys, collected and analysed data, and practised interpreting information presented in a range of graphs and charts, including bar graphs and Venn diagrams. These activities have encouraged students to think critically about data and how it can be used to communicate information and draw conclusions.
