Choosing Subjects for Year 11 & 12 – Curtin Year 10 Guide

Curtin University has released its Year 10 Guide, which is a valuable resource for students beginning to think about subject selection and future pathways.

Looking Ahead: Term 2

Term 2 will be a key period for Careers Education.

 

Planned activities include:

• TISC presentation on university applications and preferences

• Continued individual pathway planning meetings

• Workplace Learning (WPL) opportunities for General students in Year 11 and Year 12

• Ongoing Head of Learning Area presentations (Year 10)

• MyPath Week (Week 9) and Subject Selection Meetings (Week 10)


Important Reminder – University Open Days

Students and families are strongly encouraged to attend upcoming university Open Days.

 

Upcoming dates:

• ECU (Southwest Bunbury) – 3 May 2026

• ECU City Campus – 9 August 2026

• Notre Dame – 2 May 2026

• Curtin University – Postponed until further notice

• Murdoch University – 23 May

 

Open Days provide an excellent opportunity to explore campuses, speak with staff and students, and gain a better understanding of courses and career pathways.


Upcoming Event – Perth Careers Expo 2026

14 – 17 May at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre

 

The Careers Expo is a valuable opportunity for students to explore future pathways, speak with universities, training providers and industry representatives.

 

Students who are unable to attend with the school are encouraged to visit the Expo with their families over the weekend.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) will be attending the Careers Expo and offering online information sessions for students interested in careers in law enforcement.

ECU WAAPA has announced a range of short courses and workshops for students interested in performing arts and music, with many beginning from May.

 

These workshops provide excellent opportunities for students to develop their skills and explore pathways into the creative industries.


Career Spotlight: Business and Commerce Pathways

Business and Commerce pathways lead to a wide range of careers across many industries.

 

Students can study:

• Bachelor of Commerce

• Bachelor of Business

• Economics

• Finance and Accounting

 

These pathways can lead to careers such as:

• Financial analyst or stockbroker

• Accountant

• Marketing or business development manager

• Economist

 

Students are encouraged to explore these options through university Open Days and Careers counselling.
