Literacy
This term, we have been exploring the novel Wonder and learning about the challenges August faces as he navigates friendships, family life and social situations. Over the past two weeks, students have explored the story from the perspectives of Via, Summer and Jack, comparing their experiences and feelings with August’s. This has helped students develop a deeper understanding of the characters and how different people can experience the same situations in different ways.
In writing, we are focusing on narrative writing and exploring the different ways authors tell stories. Students are learning how authors use descriptive vocabulary and sentence structure to bring characters and settings to life. They will use these techniques to develop and strengthen their own narrative writing.
Numeracy
Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing on measurement, exploring length, mass and capacity. Students will practise estimating and accurately measuring everyday objects using appropriate tools and units of measurement. They will also learn how to convert between different units, applying their skills to practical, real-world situations.
Science
Students are continuing to explore the fascinating world of the human body! They are learning about the major organs, where they are located and how they work together to keep our bodies functioning. Students are also investigating what our bodies need to survive and stay healthy, including the importance of food, water, oxygen and sleep. Through discussions, activities and hands-on learning experiences, they are developing a deeper understanding of how the different systems in our bodies work together to keep us alive and well.
