Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In Literacy, we are continuing our class novel, Matilda by Roald Dahl, pausing throughout to answer comprehension questions and share our ideas during class discussions. We will be exploring new vocabulary, including arrogant, eccentric, pleasant, astonishing, loathes, casually, inhabit, vast, determined and heroic. In Sentence Level Writing, we are learning to identify sentences and fragments, as well as exploring the four sentence types: statements, questions, commands and exclamations.
Can you turn this command into a question or a statement? Maybe your child could help you.
“Everybody stand up.”
Maths
During Maths, we will be learning to tell the time on analogue clocks to the quarter hour, nearest five minutes and minute. We will also continue exploring Probability by identifying events that are certain, impossible, likely or unlikely, and conducting chance experiments, such as flipping a coin to see whether it lands on heads or tails.
Science
Over the next fortnight, our Grade 3 scientists will become fossil detectives as we explore the fascinating world of extinct animals and uncover clues about life long ago. We’ll investigate different types of fossils, discover how their location in rock layers helps us determine their age, and use these clues to learn what Earth’s environments looked like millions of years ago.
Reflection
Science
Our Grade 3 students became geologists in training during a rock’n science incursion last Wednesday. They explored the rock cycle, tested rocks and minerals, and discovered some fascinating surprises, including minerals that glow under UV light, float in water and are even edible. Check out the photos below to see our budding scientists in action!
