Class 3/4 S
Kii 3/4S families,
We have had such a fun-filled and joyful couple of weeks together at school! Thank you to all of you for your wonderful support with Book Week and Wear It Purple Day. Both occasions were a great success and brought plenty of colour, creativity and joy to our school community.
It has been lovely to see the children embrace these special days with such enthusiasm, imagination and a wonderful sense of togetherness. These shared experiences are always such a beautiful part of school life, giving the children opportunities to celebrate one another, express their individuality and build a strong sense of community.
Mathematics
Our multiplication unit is now underway, beginning with a deeper exploration of times tables. Developing a strong and confident understanding of multiplication facts provides an important foundation for the multiplication and division work that will follow.
Together, we have been exploring the patterns and relationships within the times tables, using wooden multiplication wheels to make these patterns visible and tangible. The children have then created their own versions in their Main Lesson books, helping to strengthen their understanding through movement, observation and careful recording.
We have also begun exploring square numbers and square roots, allowing the children to discover further patterns within numbers and make meaningful connections between multiplication and division. These experiences are helping students to see how the different operations are connected, rather than as isolated mathematical processes.
Regular practice at home is a wonderful way to support this learning, particularly in building automatic recall of times tables. Even a few minutes of practice each day can make a meaningful difference as these multiplication facts become more familiar and secure.
Book Day Celebration
It was terrific to see so many students embrace the spirit of Book Day, dressing up as much-loved characters and immersing themselves in a wonderful range of book-inspired activities. Throughout the day, the children had opportunities to illustrate and write, browse and borrow books, and share their enthusiasm and love of stories with one another.
The Design-a-Door activity was a particular highlight, with students working collaboratively to bring a shared vision to life on their classroom doors. It was wonderful to see the creativity, imagination and cooperation that went into each design, and there were many outstanding contributions from classes across the school this year.
The winning door, as voted for by the students, will be revealed at our assembly this coming Monday, 7th September. We are very excited to see which class takes out the honours!
MALPA
Our Malpa crew were lucky enough to welcome a visit from Ambulance Victoria. The children learnt about how to respond calmly in an emergency, when we might need to seek help, and who we should contact in different situations.
The students particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to put their learning into practice, including working together to safely place a peer into the recovery position. It was a valuable and engaging hands-on experience, helping the children build confidence and practical skills that may one day be important to them and those around them.
Gardening
Our oyster mushroom adventure continued this week! After nurturing the mushrooms that Emily gifted us during Gardening, the students were excited to harvest them and turn them into something delicious.
With Emily’s guidance, the children worked together to prepare and cook their very own dumplings, making this a wonderfully hands-on experience from growing and harvesting through to preparing and sharing food. There was plenty of enthusiasm, conversation and laughter along the way. While our dumplings cooked, the students enjoyed cups of tea and relaxed chats together, making it a lovely opportunity to slow down, connect and enjoy the fruits of their work.

“I think Wear it Purple Day went really well. The gold coin donation was a big success. It was fun to sit behind the stall and to hand out all the cupcakes and treats, and it was really great to see everyone wearing purple!” Ivy M
