1/2 A Mainstream 

Integrated- What we have been up to: 

It’s been a wonderful couple of weeks getting excited about literacy. Last week was  book week and doors, doors, doors and this week we got ready for the presentation of our shadow puppet show retells! The 1/2s worked really hard finishing their puppets and rehearsing their lines. We hope you enjoyed watching the final shows. If you missed them, don’t worry because they’ve been filmed. We plan to show them at the arts festival next term,

Maths: We have been continuing to consolidate our understanding of multiplication and division with the students making an array city. They also explored how many uniform informal units are required to measure the mass of objects on a balance scale and then they ordered the objects from lightest to heaviest.

Literacy:

Children have been exploring what tools they can use to be a poet. Poets write using their five senses, they use their poet eyes and make comparisons, they write about big feelings and they pay attention to spacing. We have focused on a few different types of fun poems - acrostic poems, shape poems, cinquain poems, and diamante poems. Students have drawn inspiration from themselves, their interests, and our integrated unit topic sound and light. It has been so entertaining to read all of the fun poetry being written by Grade 1/2s! If you have a favourite poem be sure to share it with your child and maybe they could bring it in to school and share it with the class too.

As part of our phonics program, classes have begun Little Learners Love Literacy  Stage 7.4 sounds. These sounds include: a_e as in gate, e_e as in these, i_e as in kite, o_e as in cone  and u_e as in huge.

What’s to come in the next two weeks:

• Students will finish off their multiplication and division journey with more division stories and multiplication games. Fast Facts will continue, so watch out for any unfinished sheets in your child’s bag and we will be starting to learn about measuring volume and capacity. Cooking at home is a fun and productive way to support this learning.

• Tomorrow (Friday September 4th) we will be celebrating our learning in Integrated and literacy this term.with the performances of our retell shadow puppet shows. Be sure to catch these masterpieces in your child’s classroom starting at 9:30 am:).
