The past couple of weeks our focus in the classroom has been Fairy Tales. The fairy stories we tell children help create imaginative pictures for them to live through. The archetypal images in these stories give a voice to the many aspects of a child’s being and allow the children to develop an understanding of themselves and explore the range of what is possible in the world around them in a pictorial way. Fairy tales have a spiritual truth, good is rewarded and evil is dealt with, ideas can metamorphose, life is resurrected and they bring a rich imaginative life that nourishes the soul and can even have a therapeutic effect.

We have continued exploring our surroundings in outside play and how we solve problems and challenge ourselves. The children have been building bases and bridges out of wood and rocks; they have been challenging themselves and working out ‘fairness’ on the monkey bars, making up ball games and imagining into the surroundings. This week, one wobbly, narrow ‘bridge’ inspired more bridges for different purposes, some that required a lot of team work to build and someone to oversee the busy traffic. 

What’s Ahead

Spring has sprung and we will be celebrating all things spring in the coming weeks! We will continue to use our head, heart and hands to explore phonemes, stories and numbers.
