Year 4 News

Happy Week 5!

This week, Year 4 students have continued to engage in a range of exciting learning experiences across all curriculum areas. We have loved seeing their curiosity, confidence and willingness to challenge themselves as they continue to grow as learners.

As writers, students have continued building their persuasive writing skills. They have been developing clear arguments, selecting appropriate persuasive techniques and using reasons and evidence to support their viewpoints. Students are working towards creating persuasive pieces that effectively communicate their ideas and engage their audience.

As mathematical thinkers, students have been exploring angles. They have been learning to identify, compare and describe angles, as well as recognising angles in shapes and everyday objects. Next week, students will begin our fractions unit, revisiting key concepts and building their understanding of representing, comparing and ordering fractions.

In Religion, students have been exploring The Liturgy of the Word and developing their understanding of the different parts of the Mass. They have been learning about the importance of Scripture and how the readings invite us to listen, reflect and respond to God’s Word.

As curious learners, students have been investigating Earth and its rotation during Inquiry. Using globes and light sources, students have been modelling how the Earth rotates and how this creates day and night. We have been unpacking key scientific vocabulary including axis, rotation, orbit and hemisphere to deepen our understanding of Earth’s movement.

Animal Habitat Diorama – Materials Collection

In Week 8, students will begin creating an Animal Habitat Diorama as the final project for our Inquiry unit. From now until Week 6, we would appreciate families collecting clean, recyclable materials that students can use to build their dioramas. Helpful items include shoe boxes or small cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, newspaper, string, cardboard scraps and other craft materials. Please also chat with your child about any additional materials they may need for their chosen habitat.
