Year 1 News

It is never a dull week in Year 1. There was lots of excitement and amazing learning this week, as well as an incursion and a new face.
1AM welcomes Ms Lottie Stone, a student teacher from ACU. Lottie is in her final year, and will be completing her last teaching placement with us for the remainder of Term 3!
As people of faith, we continued to find out about the Sacrament of Confirmation. We explored what happens during this special celebration, as well as the different symbols and what they mean. As thinkers, we made connections to the Holy Spirit and considered how we can enact the Holy Spirit in our own lives.
As collaborators, we had a very exciting STEM incursion with LEGO superstar, Ryan Evans! We worked together, challenging ourselves to build super tall towers, thinking creatively about unique ways to yse the LEGO pieces to maximise height. Next, we used our imagination to create hilariously unique hybrid animals. Some of us even designed and made habitats for our amazing creatures. We invented Horaffes (half horse, half giraffe), Koakes (half koala, half snake), Squigs (half squid, half pig), and many other wonderfully imaginative animals. We had so much fun collaborating, exploring new ideas, and discovering just how creative we can be!
This week will be another exciting one for us, with the much-anticipated arrival of the Henny Penny Hatching Program! Over the next two weeks, we will welcome fertilised chicken eggs into the Junior Learning Area, where we will observe them as they (hopefully) develop and hatch into fluffy chicks. We can’t wait to become scientists and explorers, as we carefully observe and record the changes we notice each day, and learn about the features and life cycles of Chickens.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Multiplication
- Reading: Information Texts, Diagrams- Chickens
