Year 3 News

As mathematicians, we are learning to find right angles in everyday objects and shapes. Using right-angle checkers, we explored the classroom and school environment to test whether corners were right angles (90°). We investigated a variety of 2D shapes and real-life objects, developing their understanding that a right angle is a special angle that forms a perfect square corner. This hands-on learning experience encouraged students to become "angle detectives" while building their confidence in recognising and describing right angles in the world around them.

As inquirers, we have been exploring Aboriginal seasonal calendars and discovering how First Nations Peoples have observed and understood the environment for thousands of years. We learnt that, unlike the four European seasons, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities recognise multiple seasons based on changes in weather, plants, animals, and the landscape. Through discussions, stories, and observations, students developed an appreciation for the deep knowledge Aboriginal Peoples have of Country and how this knowledge has been passed down through generations. 

Animal Habitat Diorama – Materials Collection

In Week 8, students will begin creating an Animal Habitat Diorama as the final project for our Inquiry unit. From now until Week 6, we would appreciate families collecting clean, recyclable materials that students can use to build their dioramas. Helpful items include shoe boxes or small cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, newspaper, string, cardboard scraps and other craft materials. Please also chat with your child about any additional materials they may need for their chosen habitat.

As members of a faith community, we are learning about the Pentecost story and its significance for Christians. We explored the events of Pentecost by summarising the key parts of the story, making meaningful connections to our own lives, and identifying important symbols such as the flames, wind, and dove, which represent the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through thoughtful discussions and reflection activities, we developed a deeper understanding of how the Holy Spirit gave Jesus' disciples courage to share God's message and how people today can show courage, kindness, and faith in their everyday lives.
