Sir John Monash Commemorative Service
On Friday 8th August the Year 9 Junior School Captains, Sophie Buckingham, Joel Dean, Amelia Clancy and Alex Osadnik travelled into the city to attend the Sir John Monash Commemorative Service at Parliament House. Alex reflected on the day by stating, “Going to the memorial for Sir John Monash was a really special experience. There were guest speakers who talked about his life and everything he achieved. They spoke about how he was a smart and brave leader during World War I, and how he helped build and improve things in Australia after the war. The speeches were interesting and made me realise how important he was to our country. The atmosphere was quiet and respectful, and everyone seemed proud to remember him. It was a good way to learn more about history and why people still look up to him today.”
After the ceremony the Junior Captains had the opportunity to speak with Mr Tim Richardson MP as he was the parliamentary speaker at the Service on behalf of the Premier. It was a wonderful day to celebrate an extraordinary man who gave so much to Victoria on his return from the Great War.
