Photography Books – Australia in Focus

“Photography is not about the camera — it’s about how you see.” — Nick Raines

Featured in our library are Australian travel photographer Nick Raines’ breathtaking travel books and the In Photos city and state series showcasing the beauty of our surroundings, from the laneways of Melbourne to the vast skies of the Outback.

Raines captures the heart of communities through his book Heart of Australia: A Celebration of Our Communities – portraits of everyday life across the nation.

Our featured books are a welcome collection to our library and are very important in showing our students a hands-on way to build visual literacy, spark creative writing, or inspire their very own photography projects.

Other books featured include:

  • Australia: The Photographer’s Eye
  • Tropical Australia, showcasing vibrant imagery of the lush northern regions.
  • Aerial Australia, breathtaking perspectives of the land from above.
  • Melbourne in Photos by Chris Groenhout & Rachel Lewis capture the city’s laneways and architecture.
  • Victoria in Photos, Groenhout & Lewis explore regional Victoria’s coastlines, towns, and hidden gems.
  • Brisbane in Photos by Larissa Dening reveals the city’s subtropical beauty and relaxed lifestyle.
  • Sydney in Photos by Tim Denoodle portrays the harbour and beaches of Sydney.
  • Darwin in Photos by Elise Derwin captures the colour and culture of the tropical Top End.
  • Tasmania in Photos by Cameron Blake presents the island’s rugged landscapes and misty wilderness.
  • New South Wales in Photos by Tim Farley showcases the state’s natural and urban scenes.
"Every photograph tells a story — we just need to look closely enough to see it.”  — Nick Raines
