Inspiring Young Musicians: BSC Partners with Beaumaris Primary School

Tomorrow, our BSC students will be participating in an exciting collaboration with Beaumaris Primary School. The BSC students will work together to create a bank of instrument performances, introducing instruments and providing details about learning an instrument as part of a music unit for the Beaumaris Primary students. We are looking forward to contributing to Beaumaris Primary School's music program and hope to inspire students to pick up an instrument, see what all the fuss is about, and hopefully have a little fun while doing so.

Snapshot City Excursion

Last week our Year 9 & 10 Snapshot students explored the city, capturing beautiful photos at iconic tourist locations and landmarks.

Despite the terrible weather, we visited the State Library, Melbourne Central, Emporium Melbourne, The Royal Arcade, The Block Arcade, Degraves Street, Hosier Lane and capped the excursion off by viewing Federation Square.

The images taken will be used in their PBL to create tourism campaign materials for a chosen location.

Thanks very much for Ms Baeffel for joining us on the day.

Malthouse Theatre Excursion

Year 9 & 10 Drama

Since last term, we have been working on a performance piece as part of our theatre studies. We began by learning about dramaturgy and were given a script to interpret in our own way. We could take parts of it and develop our own vision, so we started planning, rewriting sections, and working out which two areas each person would focus on.

I (Lara) had an acting role, playing the Desert Spirit, and was also the director. As the director, my role was to block all the scenes, lead most sessions and production meetings, and collaborate with everyone in the design areas to ensure that everything was cohesive and worked well together. I made sure that each team member fulfilled their responsibilities. I loved seeing our visions come to life and the incredible piece we produced in the end.

I (Saffron) chose acting and costume design. For costume design, I planned and drew out designs for the two characters I chose, then gathered what I needed with help from my classmates, who contributed ideas to match our overall vision. I also took on an acting role as an Ocean Spirit, which was a really fun opportunity to perform, and I had lots of fun bringing the character to life.

We were very lucky to have such a talented and hardworking class. Everyone brought something creative and valuable to the project, and it really showed in our final performance. Nye did an amazing job managing the lighting and sound, making sure every cue ran smoothly and matched the mood of each scene. Kate worked on set design and created a stunning, imaginative set that perfectly captured our vision. Campbell was in charge of props and made sure everything we needed was ready and fit with our theme. Zali and Ashton did a fantastic job backstage, helping with quick changes, set movements, and making sure everything ran seamlessly behind the scenes. Eme was in charge of hair, Peyton did makeup, and both made the actors look incredible on stage. Our cast of actors — Eme, Campbell, Beth, Vivi, Eloise, Mia, and Kate — all performed amazingly, bringing their characters to life with energy and confidence.

Our recent excursion to the Malthouse Theatre on Tuesday began with a short ten-minute session to complete our lighting and sound cues, followed by thirty minutes to prepare costumes, makeup, and final touches before taking to the stage. Once ready, we gathered in the Beckett Theatre, where Lyell warmly welcomed and introduced the participating schools: Ringwood Secondary College, Ballarat Clarendon College, Killester College, and Sacré Cœur. Our group performed last, which allowed us the opportunity to observe and appreciate the creativity of the other schools before presenting our own piece.

After our performance, we enjoyed a lunch break before watching the professional production Who No Kno Go Kno. The performance was highly distinctive, incorporating powerful elements of movement, rhythm, and contrast to communicate its story in an innovative and thought-provoking way. Overall, it was an incredible experience to perform on a professional stage and to see how much effort and creativity went into everyone’s work.
