Mission Day: Felicity in Action

Our Mission Day was a wonderful celebration of faith, community, joy and service, with our Year 12 students taking the lead in creating a fun and meaningful day for the whole College. Under the theme “Felicity on Film,” students from Junior School through to Year 11 embraced the spirit of Mission Day by running a wonderful range of fundraising stalls. From games and challenges to delicious treats and creative activities, there was plenty of laughter and friendly competition throughout the day. The energy and enthusiasm of our students demonstrated how much can be achieved when we come together for a shared purpose.

A highlight of the day was the leadership shown by our Social Justice Captains, Aleeza, Grace, Gabbi and Ella, who presented to students about the important work of Mary Ward International (MWI), highlighting the projects in India, such as the Brickfields project. Students learnt how MWI supports communities experiencing disadvantage and works alongside local partners to create opportunities for education, empowerment and a more just world.

Our Year 12 students played an important role in leading the day and organising the Talent Show. There was such excitement as guest judges – Port Power players Matilda Scholz, Kathlyn Pope and John Standley, along with Old Scholar Mieke Stam – took their places. Our very talented students danced and sang their hearts out.

Mission Day was a wonderful reminder that joy and justice can go hand in hand. Our Year 12 leaders demonstrate that service is not simply something we do for others, but something we do with others. Through their fundraising, leadership and participation, our students showed what it means to be a community that seeks truth, does justice and celebrates the happiness that comes from making a difference together.

A huge thank you to all our students, staff and families who supported Mission Day and helped make it such a memorable celebration of Felicity in action.

Finding Felicity: Year 8 Reflection Day

Recently, the Year 8 cohort went to The Monastery for Reflection Day as part of our Year of Felicity. Throughout the day, we explored topics such as choosing happiness, affirming others, building connections and practising gratitude. We began with a morning prayer, followed by games of Groups of and This or That. We then learnt about the life of Mary Ward and her mission.

For the main activities, we separated into our homerooms. In our first session, we wrote about what felicity means to us and what makes us truly happy before discussing our responses as a class. After recess, we were shown two images and we collectively figured out we had to spot the differences. This activity showed us how we often focus on differences between people instead of the similarities we share. We then split up into homerooms again and had five minutes to find ten things everyone in our homeroom had in common.

We also found a group of people we do not normally talk to and wrote an affirmation for each person. As a movement break, we played Gang Up Chasey and we also completed a gratitude activity where we wrote about things we were grateful for, including our hobbies, friends and family, achievements and personality.

After lunch, we wrote a letter to someone special in our lives, giving us an opportunity to show our appreciation for them.

We finished the day with a Gospel reading before travelling back to school. Overall, Reflection Day was a great opportunity to step away from our usual routine and reflect on happiness, gratitude, our relationships and the positive things in our lives.

Reflection Day was a valuable experience that gave me the opportunity to reflect on happiness, gratitude and my relationships with others. The activities helped me recognise the importance of appreciating the positive things in my life and building stronger connections with those around me.
