Camp, connection and character in action

As I recently shared with Year 9 families, I had the genuine pleasure of attending Year 9 camp with our girls last week. From start to finish, they demonstrated exceptional connection, effort and engagement in every activity. More importantly, they embodied the character and values that define our Loreto community.

What impressed me most was watching the girls step forward with courage and listening to them express their appreciation for our teachers, camp providers and the camp chef each day. They also seemed to view washing the dishes as a competitive House sport!

Camps do something the classroom simply can't. Honestly, I learnt more about our young women during an impromptu dance battle in the camp common room than I might during a walk through the Mary Ward building. In those moments, when we are laughing and talking openly, teachers and students have the opportunity to really see each other. We are not defined by roles or routines, and so the value of connection between teachers and students becomes real and visible.

Let's be honest though, supervising multi-night sleepovers on a large scale, away from your own families, is not without its challenges. Yet, our teachers do this willingly, creating safe and supportive spaces for your daughters to thrive. I am deeply grateful to all the teachers who have volunteered to coordinate and supervise students across our camps this year.

When your daughter comes home with stories, newfound confidence, and friendships strengthened, you will see firsthand the influence of our teachers, which I think is worth celebrating.

Wishing you all a wonderful term break.
