Sports Award Night
On Monday 21 September, we celebrated another fantastic year of sport at Loreto at our annual Sports Award Night. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the achievements, commitment and contribution of our students across both the Junior and Senior Schools.
We celebrated not only our students’ sporting successes, but also the teamwork, determination, perseverance and friendships that make sport such an important part of school life. Whether competing at an elite level or simply participating for fun, every sporting experience provides opportunities to challenge yourself, try something new, support others and grow as an athlete, a leader and a person.
We were also fortunate to hear from Lauren Frew of the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Australian cricketer Nicole Bolton, who shared stories from their sporting journeys. They spoke about the challenges and setbacks they have experienced, the importance of perseverance and resilience, and the many opportunities sport can provide beyond the playing field.
It was a lovely evening celebrating our students and the wonderful sporting community we have at Loreto. Congratulations to all of our award recipients, and a big thank you to our families, coaches and staff for their ongoing support throughout the year.
Knockout Sport
Congratulations to our Year 10 Knockout Netball team, who competed in the School Sport SA Division 2 Finals on Wednesday 16 September.
After three tightly contested wins, the team progressed through to the Grand Final, where they faced Mitcham Girls High School in a high-level match. They held their composure and worked together brilliantly to secure the gold medal.
This fantastic result is a wonderful reflection of the team’s teamwork, determination, skill and commitment throughout the competition. We are incredibly proud of all the girls and the way they represented Loreto.
Well done, and what an outstanding achievement!

A big thank you to our wonderful rowing committee for such a lovely event and the delicious food. We’re looking forward to an exciting season ahead and wish all our rowers the very best for the year!

Aerobics National Championships 2026
Well done to the six junior school aerobics teams who recently competed on the Gold Coast at the FISAF National Championships.
It is an enormous event with thousands of competitors from all corners of Australia competing!
Thank you to Ms Woods, Ms Lange and all our wonderful coaches for the time they have invested in the 2026 aerobics program. The aerobics program is our most intensive junior school sports program, with two trainings each week across three terms. It has been amazing to see the teams develop their fitness, discipline and skill level over the course of the year and we cannot wait until 2027!

Netball Finals Wrap Up
Three of our winter netball teams progressed to finals this September.
Our Year 5 Silver team had a great win in their semifinal and moved onto the preliminary final in Week 2. With a number of our players away at the national aerobics championship, it was always going to be a challenge coming up against a strong Stradbroke team. The girls battled valiantly and stayed with Stradbroke for two and a half quarters. We picked up a number of intercepts and were moving the ball well down the court. The warm weather eventually wore us down, but the players gave it their all right through to the final whistle. Well done to Isla, Roshana, Harriet, Vera and Giorgia on fighting so hard. A huge thanks to Addison and Riaana from Year 4 who filled in and played their hearts out! Well done to Millie, Emily and the team on a great season.
The Year 6 Blue team progressed to the grand final after a strong semifinal win and started well against St Ignatius, taking the lead at quarter time. The game tightened after that, with warm conditions testing the endurance levels of all players. Eva put in a dynamic display, despite nursing a nasty blister. Tiana and Ella fought hard in the goal circle. Lucy was imperious in defence. Colette, Ella, Evie and Ellie ran tirelessly in the midcourt.
The game ebbed and flowed, with barely a goal separating the two teams at any stage. When the final whistle blew, we were behind by the barest margin – one goal! There was understandably some disappointment at the end but it was great to see the players support each other, pick each other up and walk off the court proudly. The players can be very pleased with their efforts in what was a cracking game, befitting of a grand final, with both teams playing some outstanding netball. Well done to Ms White, Reina and the team on an excellent season.
The Year 5 Red team took on Charles Campbell in the grand final after a win over Magill in the semifinal. A large crowd had gathered in the blazing sunshine on Court 6 at Campbelltown to watch.
The Loreto Red team was on song from start to finish, taking a lead into the quarter time break and extending it each quarter. We eventually ran out winners, 21-11. Helen, Alessia, Harriet K and Bailey controlled the midcourt. Courtney was brilliant in the goal circle, ably supported by Charlie, Harriet E and Parker. Isobel read the game well as goalkeeper and picked up a number of intercepts. Grace and Hazel helped out in defence and made it difficult for the opposition to score. Claire was sadly out injured but cheered loudly from the sidelines. Well done to Ben and the team on a brilliant season.
Junior School Sports Awards
On Monday we held our second Junior School Sports Awards event, with players recognised for their outstanding performances during the year. The coaches from each team had two awards to allocate:
- Best & Fairest, awarded by the coach to the best player on the team
- Most Valuable Player, awarded by the coach to the player who displays the best teamwork, listens well, works the hardest and/or shows the greatest improvement during the season
We also presented awards to students who were selected in SAPSASA Representative teams in 2026.
It was great to see a large crowd of students, families and staff in attendance.
Adelaide Thunderbirds premiership player Lauren Frew was our guest player. Lauren told the students about her netball journey and also shared a simple process that she follows after each match – win, lose or draw – asking herself two questions to help her reflect and develop:
- What is something that I did well?
- What is something I can improve?
Congratulations to all our award winners!
