Australian Mathematics Competition
The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) has held on Tuesday 4 August.
This year, we had a record number of students from Years 3 to 6 representing Essex Heights. Thank you to all families for your support. We look forward to seeing our students results in one of Australia's largest mathematics competitions.
Maths Talent Quest
The Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) has officially begun! Thank you to the families who have already expressed interest. We are excited to see our students investigating mathematical questions that are meaningful to them.
There is no need to register with the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV). Essex Heights has already completed the school registration, so families do not need to sign up or complete any additional forms. To participate, students simply need to complete their investigation and email their finished project to kelvin.tang@education.vic.gov.au by Friday 28 August.
Participation is optional and open to all Foundation to Year 6 students. Students may complete their project individually or in a small group (up to six students). Families are encouraged to support and encourage their child throughout the investigation while allowing them to take the lead in developing and presenting their ideas.
If you missed the original Compass post, all supporting resources remain attached there, including the MTQ Flyer, past student project samples, student guides, rubric and suggested timeline.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Maths Olympiad
Our 30 selected Year 5 and Year 6 students have proudly represented Essex Heights in the Maths Olympiad so far this year. They have demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and perseverance, and we congratulate them on their efforts.
The remaining Olympiad round will be held on Wednesday 9 September (Week 9). We wish all participating students the very best for the remaining round.
Matific Global Cup
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in this year's Matific Global Cup, which concluded on 19 July.
It was wonderful to see so many students challenging themselves by completing mathematical activities throughout the competition. Thank you to everyone who took part and represented Essex Heights.
Matific Maths Olympiad
Next week, from 10 to 14 August, EHPS will once again be taking part in the Matific Maths Olympiad.
The Matific Maths Olympiad is one of the world's largest online mathematics competitions for primary school students, with millions of students from more than 20 countries taking part each year.
Throughout the week, students complete maths activities to earn up to 150 stars. Every student who participates receives a certificate based on the number of stars they earn, with Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Ruby certificates awarded. Students also receive entries into a draw to win one of three Samsung tablets, with more stars earning more entries into the draw.
Schools are also competing for prizes. The top three schools nationally will receive:
- 1st Place: $1,500
- 2nd Place: $1,000
- 3rd Place: $500
A Champion Trophy is also awarded to the highest-scoring class in each year level of the competition.
Our students have always enjoyed taking part in the Matific Maths Olympiad, and we look forward to another exciting week of mathematical thinking and friendly competition.
We encourage all students to log in during the competition week and do their best. Every star they earn contributes towards their own achievement and our school's overall result. For more information, please visit https://www.matific.com/au/en-au/home/matific-olympiad/From the FAQ:
- Students can log in to their Matific account, go to the Adventure Island, Arena or Assigned Work and start completing activities. Note that Training Zone will be locked during the competition.
- Each activity can add a maximum of 5 stars.
There’s no limit to the number of times an activity can be attempted, but only the attempt which gets maximum stars will be added to the competition total.
