Harkaway Primary School Incursion 

The students in Year 6 had a visit from 6 students from Harkaway Primary School, along with their Principal, Mr Leigh Johnson. 

The purpose of the visit was for the Harkaway students to showcase and share their Climate Change Education game with our students. Our students thoroughly enjoyed sharing their PowerPoints of work they had done with the Bushfire Manifestos. Afterwards, much fun and knowledge was shared with the actual playing of the Climate Change Education game, Genaraksi or (Generation in Action). 

The game was developed in Indonesia but with students in Indonesia speaking directly with the students in Australia via Zoom, about their experiences with droughts, flood and bushfires. The students in Australia gave feedback to the Indonesian developers which assisted to modify the game. Students at Harkaway tested the game and during this visit to our school, displayed how they can teach their peers to play this game. The wonderful thing about this whole experience is that the students see themselves as problem solvers in the world. So much knowledge is learned about the impacts of Climate Change and what things we can all do to make a positive change in the world to our precious environment.

We were very fortunate to have had this experience with Harkaway Primary school, and we were delighted to receive two games of Genaraksi, one in English and one in Indonesian. We had a short ceremony with Bu Gladys accepting the gift on behalf of the school. 

We look forward to more wonderful experiences in Science with Harkaway Primary School. 

We also have a couple of additional exciting opportunities for some of our students, including a group selected to visit Harkaway Primary School last Tuesday, 4 August.
