Student Leadership

Saltwater College is Allergy Aware!
Last week, Saltwater College came together to celebrate Allergy Awareness Week, and what an incredibly successful week it was! Our school community stepped up to learn, share, and ensure our classrooms and playgrounds remain safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for everyone.
A massive thank you goes out to our incredible Year 6 First Aid students and Year 5 students who, alongside our School Nurse, led the charge. Together, they presented engaging and vital allergy awareness sessions to our primary students throughout the week.
Using detailed information boards, our student leaders and nurse covered several crucial topics:
What is an Allergy? Explaining how the immune system sometimes overreacts to ordinary things.
What is Anaphylaxis? Understanding severe, life-threatening allergic reactions.
Common Allergens: Identifying the structural triggers like nuts, dairy, eggs, insect stings, and seafood.
How We Can Help: Emphasising the importance of not sharing food, washing hands after eating, and looking out for our peers.
Emergency Response: Teaching students how to quickly spot the signs of a reaction and immediately get help from a teacher or an adult.
To make the learning stick, students were provided with fantastic take-home resources, including allergy awareness memory games, word searches, parent quizzes, and colouring sheets.
We also ran an Allergy Awareness Poster Design Competition! The creativity and empathy on display were outstanding. The winning posters have been proudly displayed around the school to raise ongoing awareness and keep this vital message fresh in everyone’s minds.
Congratulations to our upper primary year-level winners:
Year 3 Winner: Anvita Saravanan 3B
Year 4 Winner: Jack Rush 4C, Meera Neupane 4A
Year 5 Winner: Aarvi Ganglani 5E
Year 6 Winner: Ishanvi Kolibylu 6E
We wrapped up the week on Friday with a vibrant Allergy Dress-Up Day, where the school was a sea of blue and orange to show our collective support. To add to the Friday excitement, students also eagerly participated in a lunchtime Allergy Treasure Hunt, cracking clues hidden around the yard to solve the puzzle.
Thank you to all of our students, teachers, and families for getting involved and helping Saltwater College stay proudly Allergy Aware!
Year 6 Parliament
Our Year 6 Parliament is up and running! Zoe Tam has been elected Prime Minister, with Vivaan Lohar taking on the role of Opposition Leader.
Led by Miss Kotevski, our student leaders and members of parliament will use their voice and agency to make decisions on behalf of the Year 6 cohort, including planning their end-of-year excursion.
This provides an exciting opportunity for students to represent their peers, develop leadership skills and help shape their final term of primary school.
Student Leadership – Term 4 Lunch Clubs
Our Term 4 Lunch Clubs kicked off today! Students can enjoy a range of activities throughout the week, including puzzles, chess, board games, coding, creative activities, construction and STEM. Outdoor options include ball games, skipping, music, dance and other games.
Indoor clubs are held in the gym foyer, with outdoor clubs taking place at the locations listed in the timetable below. We encourage students to come along, try something new and connect with others.
We look forward to a fantastic term of lunchtime fun!
