Year Two
Welcome to Term 4! We hope everyone had a lovely Spring break and are excited for our final term of 2026.
Reading
In Reading students have been learning about the Coorong which is a narrow stretch of land and water along the south coast of South Australia, about 150 kilometres southeast of Adelaide. They have been using information reports to highlight key facts, rewrite them in their own words and use that information to complete multiple choice comprehension questions. All this work was to front load them as we begin reading the book 'Storm Boy' by Colin Thiele.
Writing
In Writing students have been focusing on their Inquiry Landforms Project. During our writing sessions, students have been researching their chosen landforms and learning how to organise their findings into an informative report using subheadings. They have been developing their research skills, expanding their knowledge and becoming more confident in writing factual information. It has also been wonderful to see students improving their editing and publishing skills as they work towards producing their final pieces.
Mathematics
In Mathematics our learning is really shaping up! Students have been learning to describe, identify and classify 2D shapes, and carried that learning over to Week Two for learning about equal parts of collections and shapes, focusing on halves and quarters. Students have begun to connect this to fractions, representing parts of a whole with visuals, words, and in fraction form.
Inquiry
In Inquiry our students have been learning about the responsibilities we have in caring for places. We are considering how our choices impact our environment and how we can protect our natural resources and spaces.
Excursion Week 4:
Our excursion to Melbourne Museum and IMAX is on 28th October. Please ensure you keep updated with all notices that we have been notifying you all on.
Students need to bring recess, lunch, water bottle in a SMALL backpack not a school bag.
Students get very hungry during this excursion due to all the walking, so please be mindful of that when packing their bags.
Reminders
Hats are to be worn outdoors in Term 4. Please ensure it has a full brim and is labeled with your child's name.
Students to bring homework books and reading journals in and present them to teachers weekly on the assigned day.
Readers to be changed weekly in reading satchels.
Please check XUNO and your child's school bag regularly for any notices specific to Weeks 3 and 4.
