The Digital Technology curriculum teaches students how to think critically and creatively using digital systems. It helps them understand how computers work, how to write code, and how to design digital solutions to real-world problems. Students learn important skills like problem-solving, data handling, and safe and ethical use of technology, preparing them for a future where digital tools are part of everyday life.
Year Seven Highlights

Our Year 7 students have continued to build strong foundations in Digital Technology, beginning with problem-solving challenges like the paper tower build before moving into an introduction to Python. They have also explored machine learning and the role of AI today, and learned how to stay safe online by spotting digital scams and phishing attempts.
The latest groups have put their Python skills to great use by designing and coding their own text adventure games. Students planned storylines, built branching choices and used their programming knowledge to bring their worlds to life. It was a creative way to show just how far their coding has come.

Students also explored how AI is becoming harder to detect, and how it is now being used to create art and music. These discussions encouraged them to think critically about what they see and hear online, and to consider the opportunities and questions that come with this rapidly changing technology.
Year Eight Highlights
At the end of Semester One, our Year 8 students put their Python skills to work by creating some impressive, simple apps that use AI to help address some of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Students identified real global challenges and designed digital solutions to tackle them, connecting their coding to issues that matter in the world beyond the classroom.
It was fantastic to see students combining technical skills with creative thinking and a sense of social responsibility, showing that even small apps can start meaningful conversations about how technology, and AI, can be used for good.

Our Semester Two Year 8 students have also just completed their Escape Room excursion, where they put their problem-solving skills to the test in a real-world setting. Working against the clock, students had to think critically, communicate clearly and collaborate to crack the codes and puzzles. It was a great chance to connect the logical thinking they practise in class with a hands-on challenge.

Year Nine Highlights
The highlight for our Year 9 students was the development of the Soccer Mini World Cup website, which gave the school a central place to follow the action and track the results of the tournament.

Building on that success, students then developed a general competitions website that is now being used by all faculties across the school. The platform helps staff monitor student performance and automatically issues merits, saving time and recognising student achievement. It is a wonderful example of students creating a real solution that is making a genuine difference to our school community.

Virtual Reality (VR) in Humanities
Virtual reality continues to bring learning to life across the school. Following on from their unit on ancient history, our Year 7 students went on a journey through Ancient Egypt, exploring this remarkable civilisation up close in VR.

They also stepped into an ancient Greek kitchen, where they learned how to make flatbread. It was a creative and hands-on way to connect with the past and understand how people lived and ate in very different times, highlighting the exciting future of learning at our school.

Can you believe it? Year 9 students are entering their final term at Saltwater P-9 College! As they prepare for this exciting new chapter, the energy and anticipation for their next adventure will continue to grow.
Over the course of this term, we will also be preparing for the Year 9 Graduation. You should have received your ‘Save the Date’ email at the end of last term. Further information about tickets and details for the evening will be shared with families before the end of this term. We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our students and their families.
As a school community, it is important that we work together to ensure students finish the year positively and maintain the high standards we expect of them. This includes the small but important things, such as wearing the correct school uniform.
If your child has outgrown any part of their uniform, please contact their homeroom teacher, Ms Martyn or Ms Colling so that we can work together to resolve this.
Let’s make this final term a memorable one for our Year 9 students and ensure they finish their time at Saltwater on a positive note!
