Performing Arts
Foundation
Foundation students have been enthusiastically learning songs and dance moves about emotions and the days of the week. Through engaging drama activities such as Follow the Leader, The Mirror, and Copy the Move, students have been introduced to the art of mime and developed their confidence in movement and performance. They have also been practising their acting skills by miming different animals and experimenting with movement and body language. In addition, students have been exploring a range of facial expressions to represent different emotions, helping them build confidence in self-expression and communication through the Performing Arts.
Year 1 & 2
Students in Years 1 and 2 have been learning about mime and tableaux in Performing Arts. Initially, students were guided by the teacher to participate in mime activities and create tableaux. As their confidence and understanding developed, they began creating their own freeze frames and miming performances.
Students further strengthened their miming skills through fun and engaging activities such as Pass the Noise, Follow the Leader, and The Mirror. These activities encouraged creativity, teamwork, focus, and self-expression while helping students build confidence in performing in front of an audience.
Currently, students are working collaboratively in small groups to write their own scripts for short plays. These performances will be presented to their classmates and may also be showcased during a school assembly. This process is allowing students to develop their imagination, communication skills, and confidence as young performers while learning the importance of cooperation and creative storytelling.
Year 3 & 4
Years 3 and 4 students have been developing their acting skills through activities focused on miming and freeze frames. Working in small groups, they are creating short plays while building an understanding of character development and the importance of a character’s background story. Through these activities, students are learning how emotions, experiences, and relationships help shape believable and engaging performances.
Year 5 & 6
Students in Years 5 and 6 have been learning about miming, voice projection, improvisation, and puppetry. They have explored how to create engaging characters and develop unique voices for their puppets. Working collaboratively in small groups, students are currently creating and rehearsing their own puppet shows, while building confidence, creativity, teamwork, and performance skills.
