What a Fabulous Term! 🌟It's a bumper newsletter edition showcasing a fabulous Term 3. 

What an incredible term it has been at Modbury School! We have enjoyed a jam-packed term of learning, growth, connection and fun, with our students embracing every opportunity to connect, challenge and create.

From exciting learning experiences in classrooms to special events, sporting opportunities, the Arts and adventures beyond the school gates, there has certainly been plenty happening! It has been wonderful to see our students being kind, being safe and being resilient as they learn, grow and celebrate their achievements together.

A big thank you to our community, staff, and amazing students for all their efforts this term. In particular, a huge THANK YOU to our hard-working staff, who go above and beyond every. single. day. for our students. The Leadership Team is so grateful to have such dedicated and committed staff working with our children. 

We hope you enjoy this final newsletter edition for the term and take a moment to celebrate all the wonderful things happening across our Modbury School community.

Staffing Update 

At the end of this term, we will be farewelling Elle Hiotis, one of our valued SSOs, as she takes up a full-time administration role at Tea Tree Gully Primary School for Term 4.

Throughout this year, Elle has been sharing her time between our school and Tea Tree Gully Primary School, and we are pleased that she has been offered this exciting opportunity. While we will miss Elle, we know she will be a wonderful asset to the Tea Tree Gully PS team.

We sincerely thank Elle for all of her hard work and dedication in supporting our students and school community. We wish her all the very best in this next chapter.

Celebrating Staff Service Milestones

We are proud to congratulate Kristie Talbot and Rose Snook on reaching the wonderful milestone of 10 years of service with the Department for Education.

At our whole school assemblies, we recognise staff who achieve significant service milestones and take the opportunity to thank them for their ongoing dedication and commitment to public education. Kristie and Rose have each made a valued contribution through their years of service, and we sincerely appreciate all they have done for our school community.

Congratulations, Kristie and Rose, and thank you for your dedication to supporting students, families and public education.

Berry Street Professional Learning 🌱

Our recent Pupil Free Day provided a wonderful opportunity for our staff to come together for professional learning through the Berry Street Education Model.

Our focus for the day was on Stamina and Engagement and Character, exploring how these important areas can support our students to be confident, connected and successful learners. 

Staff considered what stamina and engagement look like for our Modbury learners and explored practical strategies to help students build their capacity to persist, participate, manage challenges and remain engaged in their learning.

We also delved into Character, reflecting on the strengths, qualities and personal attributes we want to nurture in every Modbury student. Importantly, we considered how we can intentionally create opportunities for students to develop resilience, responsibility, curiosity, perseverance and a strong sense of self.

As a result of our collective learning over this year, we have worked on developing 'The Modbury Way' which shares our Consistent Predict Approaches from Preschool, OSHC and school - we are all working together from a strength-based perspective across our school community. 

A key part of our professional learning was connecting the Berry Street strategies to the individual needs, strengths and experiences of our learners. Staff worked collaboratively, sharing ideas and thinking about how we can continue to remove barriers, build relationships and create learning environments where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

It was a valuable day of learning, reflection and collaboration, and we look forward to continuing to put this learning into practice across our classrooms and throughout our school community. 💚💛

Early Childhood Educators Day

On Wednesday, 2/9, Modbury School P-6 celebrated Early Childhood Educators Day. Thank you to Ms Rose, Alanna and all our preschool educators for your amazing contributions in nurturing and educating our preschool children. Your hard work and dedication in helping our little ones learn and grow are truly appreciated. Thank you for everything you do to make our preschool a special place.

Indigenous Literacy Day

Indigenous Literacy Day 2026 was held on Wednesday 2 September and is a celebration of First Nations stories, cultures and languages. This year we celebrated with the theme Country is our Teacher. It’s an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Stories, Cultures, and Languages.

Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC)

We are thrilled to celebrate Modbury School P-6’s wonderful achievement in this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge, with 93% of our students successfully completing the PRC. This is a fantastic result and reflects our students’ enthusiasm, commitment and love of reading.

At Modbury School P-6, we want all our children to be confident and capable readers. Reading plays such an important role in every child’s learning, helping them to build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, grow their imagination and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Strong reading habits also support success across all learning areas and foster a lifelong love of books, stories and learning.

A big thank you to our students, staff and families for supporting this fantastic achievement.

Book Fair 

Thank you to our amazing community for your support our recent Book Fair. CONGRATULATIONS to our awesome community! We surpassed our goal of $2000 and raised $3169. A big thank you to Alanna and the team for all your hard work, setup up and organisation! From these fundraising efforts, we received $800 in new books for our library and $125 in Scholastic points for later purchases. Awesome work to our Modbury community. 

Father's Day Stall

We hope all our dads celebrated a great Father's Day. Thank you to our community. We were able to fundraise $823.34 with all fundraising efforts being put towards our outdoor classroom installation. 

💚 Celebrating Our Wonderful SSO Team 💛

A few weeks ago, we celebrated SSO Week, providing a wonderful opportunity to recognise and thank our amazing School Services Officers for the incredible work they do each and every day.

Our SSOs are such an important part of the heart and soul of Modbury School. Working alongside our teachers and leadership team, they support our students, strengthen our classrooms and help create a welcoming, inclusive and positive environment where every child can learn, grow and thrive.

Whether they are supporting learning, helping students feel calm and ready to learn, preparing resources, offering encouragement or simply being there with a kind word, a smile or a helping hand, our SSOs make a difference in countless ways.

Much of their work happens quietly behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout our school every day. They build meaningful relationships, celebrate student successes and help our learners feel safe, connected and valued.

To our wonderful SSO team — thank you! We are incredibly grateful for your kindness, patience, care, flexibility and commitment to our students and our school. We feel very lucky to have you as part of our Modbury School family! 💚💛

☮️ International Day of Peace

This week, our school community came together to recognise International Day of Peace and celebrate the importance of kindness, respect, friendship and peaceful relationships.

We proudly held our annual Peace Pole Ceremony, led by our wonderful Student Leaders. Students gathered to reflect on what peace means to them and how we can each contribute to creating a kinder, safer and more inclusive world.

Our Peace Pole is a special reminder that peace begins with each of us — through the choices we make, the way we treat others and the actions we take to care for our community.

A big thank you to our Student Leaders for leading such a meaningful ceremony and helping our Modbury learners live our values of Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Resilient. 💚💛

Early Years Excursion

Rooms 8, 9 and 10 attended Surrey Downs Primary School's full technical dress rehearsal of their school production 'Alice in Wonderland' on Tuesday 22/9. Students travelled by bus to the Golden Grove Arts Centre and watched the live performance. 

Thank you to our staff and volunteers who supported this excursion to ensure our students were able to attend. A great day was had by all! A big congratulations to local school Surrey Downs Primary School for a fantastic performance. 

Spring Safety Reminder - Staying safe while exploring nature 

As we welcome the beautiful season of spring to Modbury School P-6 and along Dry Creek, the warmer weather brings fresh blooms, vibrant greenery, and the arrival of wildlife. This includes an increased presence of insects, bugs, and snakes. While exploring and enjoying play outdoors, it is important to remain vigilant in grassy areas and under rocks, where wildlife may be hiding.

We encourage our families to discuss with their children the importance of safety when interacting with nature. Please remind our children not to disturb animal homes or pick up insects or creatures, as this can frighten the animals and lead them to bite or sting as a defensive response. Respecting wildlife and their habitats ensures safety for everyone and supports the balance of biodiversity in our local environment.

If your child notices a snake or other wildlife that may pose a risk, they should immediately inform an adult—whether a staff member at school or yourself if you're exploring together. Reporting sightings promptly helps keep our community safe.

Reporting Student Absences

We kindly remind families to please notify the school of any student absences before 9:30 am wherever possible. Absences can be reported by calling the front office or by communicating with your child’s classroom teacher via Class Dojo.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain accurate attendance records and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

Holiday Safety

As the holidays approach, we encourage everyone to prioritise safety and remain vigilant. If you are near the school grounds during the break, please help us to look after our facilities. We ask that you report any unusual behaviour or concerns to Police Security promptly on 131 444. Your cooperation is vital in ensuring our school remains a safe and welcoming environment for all. 

Staying safe in public spaces 

We would like to share some important reminders to help keep our children safe when spending time in public spaces, including Civic Park. We have recently been made aware of reports of inappropriate behaviour involving older children in these areas, and we want to ensure our students are protected and safe.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to:

• Know where your child is at all times and who they are with.
• Establish regular check-ins with your child when they are out with friends.
• Discuss appropriate behaviours and strategies for staying safe in public spaces.

By working together, we can create an environment where all children feel safe and supported.
