Policy Updates - Personal accident, Ambulance and Property

Student Accident Insurance, Ambulance Cover and Personal Property at School
As part of our regular policy reminders, families are reminded that the Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students.
Parents/carers who do not have student accident insurance or ambulance cover are responsible for the costs associated with medical treatment for an injured student, including ambulance attendance or transport and other associated transport costs.
It is the responsibility of parents/carers to consider their preferred insurance and ambulance cover arrangements. The Department cannot provide advice regarding the purchase of individual student accident insurance or ambulance cover.
Personal Property – Laptops, Phones, Earbuds and Bikes
Personal property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured by the Department, and the Department does not accept responsibility for loss or damage.
This includes items such as laptops, mobile phones, AirPods/earbuds, calculators, sporting equipment and bicycles. Given the value of many of these items, families are encouraged to consider whether appropriate personal or household insurance cover is in place for devices and other valuable property brought to school.
Students should avoid bringing unnecessary valuable items to school and take reasonable precautions to keep their belongings secure.
Bicycles brought to school must be secured to the designated bike racks with a suitable bike lock or chain and must not be left at school overnight. Students are strongly encouraged to use a high-quality lock and ensure their bike is properly secured each time it is left at school.
We encourage families to discuss these arrangements with students and ensure appropriate insurance and security measures are in place.
