Cultural Day!
Most exciting news, we had our first Cultural Day!! The cultural day was run and lead by the Koorie Leadership Group, which consisted of six students from Upper Yarra Secondary College, Mooroolbark College and Yarra Hills Secondary College. All students had the opportunity to bring a friend along which is the first time this has occurred!
The morning started with a smoking ceremony from Djiri Djiri Group. Students then completed four rotating stations: (1) making bracelets, (2) cultural dancing with Djiri Djiri Group, (3) decorating clapping sticks and (4) making damper. Morning tea and lunch was catered for by Lilydale Heights College. We had bush tucker ingredients such as lemon myrtle, river mint and First Nations cookies. Below are photos from the day and student experiences!
‘I am grateful to be here and I feel inspired’ – Indi
‘Today was an inspiration day and filled with fun activities‘ - Rory
‘Today shows how close you are to your own culture’ – Ruby
‘It has been great to have the opportunity to come here’ – Phoebe
We are very grateful to have experienced this day and can't wait for the next one!!
