Wellbeing

Well done from the Wellbeing Team on a great Term 3! This term, the Wellbeing Team has enjoyed running lunchtime groups, facilitating transition groups and a Bite Back mental fitness challenge group, promoting mental health awareness and RUOK? days with the SIRC, as well as catching up with many students one-on-one.   We know that at this point in the year, many students are feeling exhausted and are really looking forward to a two-week break! For some students, just having some time away from the routines and pressures of school will be enough to recharge, but some of us need a bit of inspiration to use this time off well. The 5 Ways to Wellbeing is a great starting point; backed by research from around the world, activities from these five categories have been shown to improve wellbeing and happiness and help people cope better with stress. The five ways, and some ideas to implement them are:

CONNECT

Talk to someone in person or on the phone instead of messaging or social media.

Find an old photo of friends or family and share it with them.

BE ACTIVE

Play your favourite song and dance to it.

Stretch and move your limbs in the morning, midday and evening.

BE AWARE

Really savour every mouthful of your lunch, noticing the texture, flavour, how the food feels and tastes.

Watch animals and birds outside.

KEEP LEARNING

Research something you’ve always wondered about.

Learn a new word or words to a new song.

HELP OTHERS

Smile and be willing to give your time to a conversation, or check up on a friend by email, phone, or better still in person.

Give unwanted items to a local charity shop.
