Year 10 Japanese Immersion Excursion

The task was definitely challenging and really put our Japanese skills to the test. It was fun getting to explore Smith Street and ticking off  each location as we found them. It was a great experience and really challenged our team work skills. The food we ate at the end was a great way to end the journey. I got the Pork Katsu Sando and it was おいしい (delicious). I can't wait to hear what next year’s Year 10 students think of the trip too!  (Heath D.)

We were given instructions in Japanese that we had to translate in order to find the restaurant. Our groups were sent off gradually, giving everyone time to translate and navigate. Even though it wasn’t meant to be a competition, we all turned it into one to see who could get there first. Along the way, the directions told us to look out for certain shops so that we could answer questions on our sheet.  When we finally made it to the restaurant, the first thing we did was check what place we came in the ‘competition.’ But more importantly, we were excited for the food. After all the travelling, we were hungry and eager to eat. Most people ordered okonomiyaki or a Pork Katsu Sando (sandwich). We all really enjoyed the experience and the authentic Japanese food.   (Mya R.)

Last week, for our Japanese assessment, we were challenged to follow directions written in Japanese as we made our way along Smith Street (North Fitzroy). The directions eventually led us to a Japanese restaurant, where we stopped for lunch. The whole day was really enjoyable. After lunch, we had a few more directions to follow before we had some free time to explore Smith Street and do a bit of shopping, which made the experience even more fun. Overall, this activity really helped me improve my Japanese reading skills and gave me more confidence with using direction words. (Mason F.)
