For Arts Week, year 7s were lucky to have a First Nations incursion group come to Mount Eliza Secondary College. In the first period/session we learnt about indigenous culture, including the different mobs from other Countries around Australia. Sean talked about the six indigenous seasons and learnt about games they would play, including one with a possum skin ball (also known as Marngrook) which we got to feel along with different animal skins and boomerangs and spears used in different areas for different purposes.

In the next session, we got to use creative practical skills by painting one of two indigenous creators from the dreamtime, known as Waa the crow and Bunjil the eagle. This session was great because it let us experience these painting ourselves by letting us do handprints and dot art.

Then at lunchtime, there was a didgeridoo performance for us to watch and participate in with clapping sticks and a range of different music styles. I enjoyed learning about it and experiencing it. Oscar C, Year 7.
