Buzzing Around Kinder

Recently Holly's Backyard Bees visited MECS Kindergarten to help us learn about these special winged insects and the many amazing things they do for the beautiful world we live in. Besides learning about fascinating facts of these pollinators, such as bees' life cycle, the  different types of bees in a colony, their characteristics, and distinctive roles, the children got to experience looking at a real beehive up close; watching a live demonstration of Holly putting on a beekeeper's safety suit, gloves and veil; trying on a child-sized veil and handling a smoker, and tasting raw and creamed honey. These were wonderful multimodal learning opportunities that involved all the children's senses.

Through this incursion, we have become Awe Dwellers of God's marvellous designs and creations in nature and learned practical ways to be better Creation Keepers by looking after the bees and their habitats.
