Junior Primary visits Year 10 Chemistry class

Recently the Junior Primary students had the wonderful experience of visiting a Year 10 Chemistry class. It was such a beautiful event!

Enjoy some student reflections and photos below.

On Thursday 26 June, the Year 10 Natural Sciences class had the exciting opportunity to host a science afternoon for the JP’s. It was a fantastic experience, and I really enjoyed getting to give the JP’s a glimpse of what science is all about along with the rest of my class.

I had the extra responsibility of giving the safety talk to the JP’s at the beginning of the afternoon, alongside Levi N. It was a great experience getting the kids ready and excited for the afternoon’s experiments. After that, the kids got to see all the different and interesting experiments. I ran a fireball experiment with Josiah C which was definitely my highlight. After we had a go we gave the teachers an opportunity to try, and the JP’s loved it and many of them were quite eager to try it themselves.

The afternoon was an incredible learning experience not just for the JP’s but also for us in Year 10, as it was really rewarding to teach people the science we’d learned over the term. Everyone had a great time and I’m really glad I got to be a part of the afternoon. Good job to the JP’s for their curiosity and enthusiasm, and to the Year 10’s for running such an amazing afternoon.

It was such a fun experience having all the JP's come into our science class. We were able to teach the kids fun and interesting science knowledge through interactive activities. These activities included Elephant's Toothpaste, A Flame test, Holding Fire and Erupting Volcanoes.

We eagerly waited for the classes to arrive and when they finally did it was so much fun. The kids arrived in the science labs and looked just as excited as us. We taught them about lab safety and even had some kids wear lab coats. The students then went around to each fun experiment. The kids enjoyed each experiment and found some of the experiments extra exciting, such as the fire holding experiment. They also had various questions to ask about each one showing their interest in science and our experiments.

At the end of all the experiments, the kids shared some of their favorite experiments, surprisingly enough most classes had equal amounts of students who found each experiment as their favourite. There was then time for them to ask extra questions including things about machinery around the labs and how each experiment worked.

Overall this was such a great experience for the Year 10 students. We not only got to share our knowledge but also teach the JP students something about how fun science can be.
