When Education Equals Transformation
EduDeo Ministries
In the Bible, Jesus was once asked an important question: "Who is my neighbour?". His answer was the well-known story of the Good Samaritan, who was willing to open his eyes and reach beyond the barriers of culture to be a good neighbour to someone in need. As MECS considers this same question, we must also open our eyes to the needs in our own region. Just across the sea from Darwin lies West Timor, Indonesia. Here, we have the opportunity to support Christian schools in much more humble circumstances than what we enjoy in Australia. Over the last three years, MECS, along with Christian Education National (CEN) and Canada-Based EduDeo, has been working to provide training for teachers on how to implement Transformational Education based on the Biblical Story. Daniel Bradbury, who is fluent in Indonesian has just returned from another round of workshops for teachers in Kupang, the capital of West Timor. He remarks: "I never cease to be amazed at the passion and commitment of these teachers in Timor. Though they have so little in material wealth, comfort or even facilities like we enjoy, yet they are willing to work so hard to provide authentic Christian education to children in need. It is such a joy to work with them, and I always arrive back home more motivated than ever!"
