Indonesian Restaurant Visit
Learning a language is more than just speaking new words and phrases
Our Year 9 Indonesian class have been preparing themselves to visit an Indonesian restaurant where they were able to order the food in Indonesian and even comment on the various flavours.
We all know about Nasi Goreng, but have you tried Nasi Kuning (yellow rice) or Saté Ayam (chicken satay) or even Pak Bradbury's favourite, Rendang Sapi (Slow-cooked beef curry)? Enak sekali!(Very delicious!).
One of the key aspects of learning a language is the richness of culture that is experienced by the learner once they leave the classroom. Beyond just amazing food, our students reflected on how interacting with the restaurant owner or waiter in Indonesian is a huge part of the reward. Language becomes real, and tastes great too!
