On 14 July, our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students had the opportunity to volunteer at FareShare alongside Mrs Oostermeyer, Mr Mitchell and Ms Buckingham. The excursion provided students with a meaningful, hands-on learning experience while giving back to the wider community.

Working together as a team, students made an incredible contribution to FareShare's mission of providing free, nutritious meals to Australians experiencing hardship. During the day, they:

  • Assembled 1,485 single-serve meals
  • Opened and trayed chicken for 516 meals
  • Decanted cream and passata for 1,000 meals
  • Prepared peas for 1,800 serves
  • Folded tea towels and aprons, sorted gloves, and helped clean and reset the kitchen

The day highlighted the values at the heart of the VCE Vocational Major program, including teamwork, community engagement, responsibility and advocacy. Students demonstrated outstanding cooperation, enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute, knowing their efforts would directly support people in need across Victoria.

We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 12 VCE VM students represented Norwood Secondary College. Their positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to helping other made a lasting impact, and we thank the wonderful team at FareShare for providing such a valuable and rewarding experience.
