As we move through Term 3, there is a strong sense of purpose and momentum within the Senior School. Students are balancing coursework, assessment and future planning, while also taking advantage of the many opportunities available to them. For our Year 12 students particularly, the coming weeks will be important as they continue to consolidate their learning and prepare for the final stages of their secondary education.

Senior School Subject Selections

The subject selection process for 2027 is well underway, commencing with the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) Information Evening held on Tuesday 14 July. The event was well attended, providing students and families with valuable insights into the opportunities, pathways and learning experiences offered through the VCE VM and VET programs. Thank you to our Careers and Pathways Team, Mr Paul Duncan and Mrs Samantha Hadley, for their organisation and facilitation of the evening. We also extend our thanks to the Head Start team for sharing information about School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) and the opportunities they provide for students pursuing vocational pathways.

The Senior School Information Evening was held online on 21 July and formed an important part of the subject selection process. Students and their parents/carers received valuable information from the Heads of Year Level, along with presentations from our English and Mathematics teachers highlighting key aspects of subject offerings and pathways within the Senior School. We thank all staff involved in the evening (Mr Rod Mitchell, Ms Annie Hearne, Ms Ashlea Guerra and Ms April Glare) for generously sharing their expertise and supporting students and families as they make informed decisions about their future learning pathways.

During Mentoring classes last week, students explored the Subject Selection Handbook and the wide range of resources available to support their decision-making. This included access to subject information and videos developed by each Key Learning Area, showcasing course content, learning expectations and assessment requirements to support informed subject selection. These activities encouraged students to reflect on their interests, strengths and aspirations while discussing their future pathways with their mentor teachers.

Looking ahead, staff will meet with Year 10 students and their families on Tuesday 4 August as part of the subject selection process. These Course Counselling interviews will provide students and their parents/carers with the opportunity to review proposed VCE programs and explore future options with a member of the Leadership Team. We hope these conversations will support students in making informed and confident decisions about their senior secondary course.

NAIDOC Week Fundraiser

On Friday 17 July, students and staff participated in our annual NAIDOC Week Fundraiser. The day included free dress for a gold coin donation and a lunchtime BBQ, organised by our Year 7 and Year 12 Student Leaders.

The event provided an opportunity for our school community to acknowledge and celebrate NAIDOC Week while supporting a worthwhile cause. Funds raised from the day which totalled $1381.00 will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, which works to improve access to books and literacy resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and communities.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraiser and to the student leaders for their organisation of the event.

Presentation Ball Rehearsals

Preparation for this year’s Presentation Ball is progressing well, with 98 Year 10 students currently developing their confidence and dance skills through rehearsals led by our experienced instructors. Throughout the sessions, students have embraced the challenge of learning a variety of dances, demonstrating commitment and a willingness to step outside of their comfort zones. We look forward to seeing their hard work come together when the Presentation Balls is held at Alencia on Thursday 17 September.
