Extracurricular Updates

Hi everyone!!!
As some of you may already be aware, this term has been absolutely packed within the Extracurricular space, and we wanted to take this opportunity to share some updates and recognise some of our student successes :D
DAV Debating – Round 1
We’ve officially kicked off our debating season for the year, with Round 1 of DAV running early this month. Of our eight teams, six wins were secured, and we currently have a team at the top of our regional ladder in every grade. Congratulations to our best speakers from round 1:
A Grade – Adiba Khan (Team 1), Saisha Sarin (Team 2)
C Grade – Alexis Tremoulis (Team 1)
D Grade – Ishmay Jewana (Team 1), Hridhya Ganesh (Team 2)
Melbourne Museum Climate Issues Debate
This was a competition hosted jointly by Melbourne Museum and the DAV, consisting of a series of debates relating to the environment and global management policies. The preliminary round on the 13th of March involved two prepared debates, from which our team emerged undefeated.
We returned last week on the 27th of March for finals, winning the semi-final and progressing to a secret topic Show Debate in the Grand Final. Despite being first time debaters, our team presented phenomenally in every round, placing second overall. Once again, I’d like to say a huge congratulations to our speakers Aadya Mathur, Aryan Singh, Khazir Mudassir, and Anna Mathew!!
Monash Asian Studies Debate
On the 15th of March, two teams from SCHS headed down to Monash University to participate in the Asian Studies Debate. The day was structured with three rounds of debates, with a pool of 24 schools participating from across Australia. Both of our teams performed exceptionally, with Team 1 emerging undefeated across every round of the preliminary debates and currently awaiting further information in relation to a finals round. Thank you to all of our lovely speakers!!

Club Expo
On the 23rd of March, we ran our annual Student Club Expo. Every year, this event serves as an opportunity for students to discover the various student-led clubs that our school has to offer – this year, we had over 50 clubs on display, in domains such as sports, creativity, community action, and many more!
It is always lovely to see our student community gathering to connect over passions and interests, and we look forward to watching each of our clubs grow and thrive in the year ahead :) Each of the displays looked incredible, so thank you to all of our club leaders for coming together to facilitate this experience!!
Overall, it's been a crazy term, and there are many more upcoming opportunities once we return back from the break!! It's been wonderful to see so many people step forward and represent the school, regardless of experience level. As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, you’re more than welcome to come have a chat with Saisha or I, and we would love to hear your ideas!! Enjoy the well-deserved break <3
