Professional Learning with Brendan Lee

What a valuable learning experience our teachers and education support staff had on the curriculum day last Tuesday, when they participated in the full day of professional learning with Brendan Lee. This was the second of the two-day program Teaching for Productive Learning in Primary Mathematics’.

Brendan led the staff in how to identify students who are at the acquisition, fluency, generalisation or adaption learning stages and explained what the teacher needs to do in each stage to fully support learning.

We then went on to learn about considering the skills required of students when we are teaching a maths lesson, whether they be psychomotor, simple cognitive or complex cognitive. A set of clear teaching procedures are required for each of these types.

The day was a success with our staff building on their confidence and capacity to teach new content effectively. We look forward to welcoming Brendan Lee back in Term Four, where he will work alongside teachers in classrooms, coaching and demonstrating effective maths teaching.
