Appreciations and Acknowledgements

All the best Shannon

I am sure our staff, students, parents and carers will all join me in wishing Shannon Mason every success as she begins family leave next week. Shannon’s efforts have been appreciated as a class teacher and team leader, however it has been her work in revitalising our Library program last year and launching an outstanding STEM program this year that has brought her work into even greater focus across our school community. Shannon has enjoyed working closely with her successor Sasha Pollnitz and we are confident that the outstanding program will continue. Shannon has been very busy this week preparing Science Week activities (see the STEM News page).

Congratulations to our Year 5 Entrepreneurs

I received the following communication from Rachel, one of the parents of our enterprising year 5 crew.

‘A group of students (mostly Year 5) worked all through Term 2 at home and school during break time making jewellery and creating other accessories to sell at a stall that was held on the last day of Term 2 at Johnson Reserve. They raised $150. As a group they decided to donate the money to the Make a Wish foundation.’

We have some wonderful pictures that we can display at assembly (internal use) rather than in the newsletter (external use).

We love hearing stories such as this.  Well done to the enterprising group and thanks Rachel for sharing the message and the pictures.

Mud Tree Creatures

A staff member and a parent captured pictures of these intriguing and mysterious mud creatures that have recently appeared on the trunks of our oval trees. We featured the pics at assembly and felt they needed a wider audience. I wonder who are the muddy muses in our midst?

Congratulations Angela!

Susie does a wonderful job encouraging artistic expression across the school. I regularly have students attend the office with some amazing artistic creations. Featuring this week is our Principal Award winner, Angela Le from 6MC.

News and Appreciations

School Council News

School Council met online on Monday evening. Among the matters discussed was correspondence from neighbouring residents regarding increased parking demand associated with community use of the Eagle Gymnasium. In Business Arising, Council continued discussions regarding the proposed contract extension for our Outside School Hours Care provider, TheirCare.

Council approved parent payments associated with the upcoming Athletics Carnival, intensive swimming program, Year 3 incursion, school disco and Book Week activities.  Amongst other things the Principal report covered Prep 2027 enrolments and facilities works. The finance report and payments for the past month were approved. ComPol reported on the languages survey that has received many responses. Our Parents’ Association provided a verbal report on preparations for forthcoming events. General Business comprised compliance requirements review of our insurance coverage and finally a comprehensive NAPLAN report was presented by Assistant Principal, Carolyn Lockie. We very much appreciate the active, supportive and able membership that forms our current School Council. Our next meeting will be held onsite in a month’s time.

Curriculum Day

Our very strong focus on the maths curriculum received additional attention with a whole staff curriculum day on Tuesday. Assistant Principal Carolyn has been integral to the implementation of our new direction. I encourage you to read her piece on page Teaching & Learning News.

Coming Up Tomorrow

Preps 100 Days of School

Preps will be celebrating their 100 Days of School with activities throughout the day tomorrow. As part of the celebration, the Prep teachers will be preparing a treat of fairy bread with sprinkles (hundreds of them!) to share with the students. It is wonderful to see our youngest students arrive dressed in an array of costumes for this special occasion.

Assembly

Our assembly item will feature the Prep’s 100 Days of School celebration. We will also feature this week’s Pupil of the Week Awards. Visitors are asked to be seated by 2:45pm.

Coming Up Next Week

FWPS Athletics Carnival

Our annual event for all students from Years 4, 5 and 6 is due to be held next Wednesday, 4th August. This is a whole day event with buses due to depart school from 9:30am and returning by 3:00pm. The canteen will be operating, and the students will be able to access the canteen during the day, however, please ensure that your child brings a packed lunch. While there is significant shelter available at the venue, families are encouraged to check the weather forecast and ensure students are dressed appropriately.

Coming Up Soon

Science Week is coming to FWPS

Science Week at FWPS will be celebrated during the week starting Monday, 10th August. Watch out for the whole school glider competition and daily quiz questions. See further information under the Coming Up at FWPS section.

Inform & Empower

Our Term 3 online Inform & Empower cyber safety incursion will be presented for Year 1 - 5 students during either week 5 and 6 (week starting 10th August). For the Prep team, it will be held in Week 7. All families should receive an information sheet to provide families with the context to have relevant conversations with their children.
