Weekly Values Focus - Responsibility

Week 4: Footscray West students look after their own and others’ belongings

At our school, we show responsibility by looking after our own belongings, the belongings of others, and the shared resources we use every day. This might include our bag, lunchbox, jumper, books, pencils, sports equipment, or classroom materials. When we take care of these things, they stay in good condition, are easy to find, and are ready for everyone to use when they are needed.

Looking after our belongings can be simple. We can put things back where they belong, keep our table or tub tidy, make sure our name is on our personal items, and pack up carefully at the end of a lesson or the school day. We also care for shared resources by using them carefully, taking only what we need, and returning everything to the right place. Small choices like these help keep our learning spaces calm, organised, and ready for everyone.

Sometimes it is easy to leave something behind or forget to put equipment away when we are excited to move on to the next activity. Being responsible means stopping for a moment and asking ourselves, "Have I packed up properly?" or "Is this ready for the next person to use?" These simple habits show pride in our school and respect for everyone who learns and plays here.

This week, think about one way you can better care for your belongings and the resources around you. Could you keep your things organised? Could you return equipment without being asked? Could you help a friend remember to pack up carefully? Small actions like these show responsibility and help make our school a great place for everyone.
