Year 4 Art – Striking Self-Portraits

This term in Art, our Year 4 students are exploring self-portraits in a creative and challenging way! Using white drawing tools on black cardboard, they are learning to carefully observe their own faces and draw them with accurate proportions. Students are focusing on placing the eyes, nose, and mouth correctly, and on using clear, continuous contour lines to capture the unique details of their features.

To complete their artworks, students are designing decorative frames using fine liners, experimenting with patterns and textures to add a personal touch. This part of the project encourages patience, precision, and creativity, allowing each student to make their self-portrait truly their own.

Through this project, students are developing important artistic skills: accurately representing proportions, creating detailed line work, and designing intricate patterns. The combination of bold white lines on a dark background and vibrant, patterned frames produces striking, memorable pieces that showcase each student’s personality and creativity.

We are incredibly proud of the effort and skill our students are putting into their self-portraits – each piece is a wonderful reflection of observation, imagination, and artistic growth!
