Deputy Principal's Message

Dear Parents,
Last week, the new ICT User agreement was sent home. Please ensure you read through the agreement with your child, sign and return it to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.
This term, our Inquiry concept is Health, Wellbeing and Safety. As part of this learning, students will explore their safety networks and identify the people who help to keep them safe. They will also develop a strong understanding of how to stay safe online. We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home by regularly discussing online safety with your child. Below are some helpful hints to help you in keeping your children safe online. Also, please take time to read through and discuss the user agreement with your child to reinforce safe and responsible online behaviours.
- The use of computers, laptops or any internet-enabled devices (iPad, phone, iPod, Xbox) SHOULD be in a common area of the house, NOT IN THE BEDROOM! Need an alarm – buy a clock radio!
- Have a family internet contract and set house rules about what information your child can put onto websites or share with others.
- Spend time online with children, just as you would with many other activities such as sport, board games and walking the dog – learn and explore together, talking about what is safe and unsafe.
- Parental controls can help keep children and young people safer online by preventing access to harmful content, managing the time they spend online, and limiting who they communicate with. They should be reviewed and updated regularly.
- Parental controls are most effective when used alongside supervision and other online safety strategies.
Attached is a copy of a family internet agreement from the eSafety Commission.
We value your support and partnership in keeping our students safe online.
Have a wonderful long weekend.
