Year 3 News

Welcome to Week 6!
As members of a faith community, we prepared for our Sacrament of Reconciliation by engaging in a face-to-face workshop with our families. We welcomed other Year 3 students from St Joseph's Brunswick and Our Lady Help of Christian. We reflected on what it means to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and its connection to growing closer to God. Thank you Sarah Smith for a powerful and engaging workshop!
We have been exploring the three important traditions of Lent.
Prayer – We discussed how we spend extra time talking and listening to God during Lent. The students shared different ways people can pray, including quiet reflection, traditional prayers, and reading Bible stories.
Fasting – We explored what it means to “give something up” during Lent. We talked about how fasting can help people practise self-control and think about what truly matters.
Almsgiving – We learned that almsgiving means giving to those in need. We discussed ways people can help others through donations, kind actions, and giving their time.
As mathematicians, we have been learning about fact families — groups of related addition and subtraction facts that use the same three numbers. Understanding fact families helps us see the connection between addition and subtraction. It also builds confidence and fluency with number facts, which supports more complex problem-solving later on. We have also been using number lines to help us add and subtract.
- When adding, we start at a number and make jumps forward.
- When subtracting, we start at a number and make jumps backwards.
