Year 4 News

As mathematical thinkers, students have begun our new unit on fractions this week. Throughout this unit, we will explore a range of fractions, including halves, quarters, thirds, fifths, and tenths of a shape. Students will investigate how these fractions represent equal parts of a whole and identify the fraction that matches each shape and model.
We look forward to developing our understanding of how fractions work and how they can be represented in different ways.
As readers, we have continued engaging with our whole-class novel Uncle Xbox. Throughout this learning, students have been exploring adverbials, sentence types and structures, and the vocabulary choices authors use to enhance meaning and engage the reader.
As writers, we have been unpacking and analysing exemplar texts to deepen our understanding of factual recount writing. Students have been identifying key structural features and language choices, and using these to inform and strengthen their own writing.
On Tuesday, the Year 4 girls had the wonderful opportunity to visit Mercy College Coburg for the day and experience what life might be like in high school. Throughout the day, they participated in a range of engaging activities including cooking, science, art, dance and music.
As inquirers, we have now completed our Learning to Learn unit. Students created class expectations, developed a shared charter, and agreed on positive ways of working together. To finish, students took part in perspective role-plays, exploring different viewpoints and practising empathy across various scenarios. As you can see from the photos, the children had a very fun time!
Home Learning
A reminder that Home Learning is being sent home each Monday; the expectation is that it is returned each Monday. As part of our Home Learning, students are required to read nightly and complete their diary entry.
Day change: Miss Zorzut will be away on Friday, 6th March, and Ms Karalis will be in the class.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the long weekend!
