Learning in Year 5

Year 5 have just returned from an amazing time at The Great Aussie Bush Camp! Students had a fantastic few days away, filled with laughter, challenges and memories that will last a lifetime.

Some of the biggest highlights included the flying fox, aeroball, spending time with friends in our cabins and, of course, enjoying ice cream for dessert! It was wonderful to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, giving new activities a go and supporting one another throughout camp.

We also held a cabin inspection at the end of camp and saw some of the tidiest cabins we have ever seen! We are now very confident that your children’s bedrooms at home will stay spotless forever 😉

In English, students have been working on informative writing, where they researched a natural wonder of their choice. They explored how it was formed, its climate, location, wildlife, and other interesting facts. Students have also been developing their understanding of compound sentences, learning how to combine two ideas together to strengthen their writing and make it more engaging for the reader.

In Mathematics, we have started our unit on probability. Students have been exploring the language of chance and learning how probability can be represented on a number line. They have also begun representing probability numerically using fractions and decimals to describe the likelihood of events occurring.

It has been a fantastic and busy few weeks in Year 5, and we are proud of the enthusiasm, resilience, and effort students continue to show across all areas of learning!
