From the Year 2 Classroom

It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year 2, filled with lots of learning, laughter, and students growing into more independent learners. Keep up the great work, Year 2!
In Literacy, we have been exploring persuasive texts and identifying their key features. We have also been building our comprehension skills by responding to a range of picture books during our Storybook lessons. We especially enjoyed The Snail and the Whale, and many students imagined what it would be like to travel the world on the whale’s back! As part of our learning, we have been writing our own persuasive texts, sharing our opinions on topics such as the best season of the year and the best pet. Students have enjoyed comparing ideas and giving reasons to support their opinions.
In Maths, we have been learning to tell and read time on an analogue clock, and more recently, we have started exploring how to read a calendar. Practising time at home using both analogue and digital clocks would be a great way to support this learning. You might ask your child questions like: What time do you go to bed? What time do you eat dinner? What time do you leave for school? Next week, we begin Addition and Subtraction.
In Religion, we are focusing on the events of Holy Week through storytelling and Godly Play experiences. We are also looking forward to our “Big Walk,” which will be held on the last day of term, Thursday 2nd April. Everyone is warmly welcome to join us.
In Respectful Relationships, we explored how we can be “bucket fillers” rather than “bucket dippers.” Together, we brainstormed ways to spread kindness, such as using kind words, checking in with others, showing good sportsmanship, smiling, and asking, “Are you okay?” Try asking your child, “How were you a bucket filler today?”
Congratulations to our Award winners for the last few weeks:
2B- Rikki Thomson, Winnie Mestrom, Dom Nagle, Kenzie Johnston
