From the Year 4 Classroom

Literacy: We are reading the whole class novel Ralph and Leo. We will be focusing on creating a narrative story about an imaginative friend, animal or creature. Students will be working with a partner to share ideas and form their structure of writing. 

Numeracy: We have started our next numeracy unit on Time. We will focus mainly on elapsed time to the hour and five minutes as well as converting units of time to solve problems. It would be great if students could please be practising their timetables at home. 

Religion: We are continuing to learn about the three pillars of Lent – Almsgiving, Prayer and Fasting. We are looking forward to participating in The Big Walk to raise money for CARITAS. This gives us the opportunity to put ourselves in the shoes of those less fortuntate to connect with our learning. We are also learning about the Mercy Values – Respect, Hospitality, Compassion, Service, Courage and Justice. As a whole school, we are breaking one value open each week to see how we can live the value. Our focus has been Service and Courage.  

Inquiry: We are learning about sleep on the brain and the importance sleep. This week students will be working on creating a sleep routine to assist in helping their brain best learn at school. 

PBIS Focus: 

Be Safe – keeping hands, feet and objects to themselves, following the rules, and asking for adult help when needed. Be Respectful – using kind words, including others, and caring for people and property. Be Your Best – trying their hardest, making positive choices, learning from mistakes, and persevering when things feel challenging.

• 20th Friday- World Down Syndrome Day – wear crazy socks and a gold coin donation 
• 20th Friday- Ride to School Day 
• Thursday 26th March is Purple Up for Epilepsy Day. 

April 

• Thursday 2nd Big Walk, house colours to be worn.
