From the Year Prep Classroom

We can't believe there are just over two weeks of the first term to go! We are so proud of our gorgeous Preps who are loving coming to school and enjoying their learning. Thank you to all those families we saw last night, and we look forward to meeting with our remaining parents tonight to celebrate all your children's amazing successes so far!

Literacy: The students have been loving learning about our letter characters and their sounds! We have met Maggie Mouse, who makes the /m/ and the children rub their tummies while saying /m/, Sammy Seal, who makes the /s/ sound (the children use their arm to show a surfing action), Tommy Tiger, who makes the /t/ sound (students tap their noses while saying the sound), and Andy Ant, who makes the /a/ sound (the children pretend to hold an apple and take a bite). Ask your children to show you the actions they have learnt and see if they can make the sounds for you!

We have also introduced independent tasks during our literacy time, and the children are loving the opportunity to practise their learning in small groups. They are doing a wonderful job building their confidence and working independently.

Maths: Last week we finished our learning about ordering daily events, time and the days of the

week. A favourite activity was playing the game “Sit Down Sunday.” The students had lots of fun while reinforcing their understanding of the order of the days.

We are now moving into Counting and Place Value, where we are learning to write, make, order, and count forwards and backwards to 10. Students will also begin comparing collections. We take our time with this learning so children can develop a deep understanding and feel confident before moving on to larger numbers.

Religion: In Religion we have been learning about Holy Week and how this is the reason we celebrate Easter. The students particularly enjoyed acting out Palm Sunday and The Last Supper, helping them understand these important events in a meaningful and engaging way.

We also spent some time learning about St Patrick’s Day, and there were many cute little leprechauns spotted leaving Sacred Heart on Tuesday!

World Down Syndrome Day:

On Friday we will learn more about World Down Syndrome Day and discuss the importance of making sure everyone feels included and valued. Leading up to this day we will talk about embracing differences with kindness and respect. We will participate in a fun activity decorating their own socks. Don’t forget, students are encouraged to come to school on Friday wearing their brightest, most mismatched socks to help us celebrate!

Thank you for all your support throughout the term, it is truly appreciated.

Please remember that we are always here if you need any support or have any questions.

Jo, Patrice, Jenny & Michelle
