Learning in Year 5

It has been another busy and exciting time in Grade Five, with lots of learning, creating and growing across the curriculum!
Writing
We have just wrapped up our Narrative Writing unit. Students have loved spending the past few weeks creating and developing their own stories, and we have been so impressed by the creativity and imagination they have shown. From interesting characters to exciting plots, there have been some fantastic stories coming to life!
Reading
In Reading, our students are now reaching the halfway point of their class novels. There have been lots of rich discussions taking place as students share their thoughts, make connections and predict what might happen next. They have also enjoyed responding to each chapter through a range of writing activities.
Maths
In Maths, we have recently finished our Angles and Measurement unit, with students enjoying plenty of hands-on activities to help build their understanding. We have loved seeing students complete a range of worksheets and getting outside to show their understanding.
Integrated
High income vs Low Income Holiday:
Our Integrated Studies unit has taken us on a holiday adventure! Students have been learning about budgeting by planning a seven day holiday within a set budget. They first planned a luxury holiday for a surgeon before taking on the challenge of planning a much lower-budget holiday for a barista. It has been great to see students making decisions, comparing costs and thinking carefully about how to spend their money.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we have been exploring positive and negative emotions and talking about the different ways we experience and manage our feelings. We have also been having important conversations around body safety as we prepare for our upcoming swimming program.
It has been wonderful to see the Grade Five students embracing their learning, challenging themselves and supporting one another. We are looking forward to another great few weeks ahead! 🌈
