Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been exploring multiplication using arrays and groups of objects, while continuing to build on our understanding of division. We have also started revising time and are working hard to read and tell times accurately, including o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. The students have been doing an amazing job developing their times table fluency, with lots of fun activities helping to improve both their accuracy and speed.

Writing

In Writing, we have been learning about information reports and exploring how to find, organise and present factual information clearly. Students have researched Australian animals and developed their understanding of how to use facts to teach their readers. They then had the opportunity to explore Arctic animals and use the information they discovered to create an informative poster about their chosen animal. We have loved seeing the students become little experts and share their knowledge with others!

Integrated

In Integrated Studies, we have been continuing our Farm to Table unit by exploring where sugar comes from, learning about the different machinery used on farms, and investigating the five food groups and how they help us have a balanced diet. We recently had a wonderful day at Myuna Farm, where students had a ball learning about how a farm operates and meeting a range of different animals. They enjoyed feeding the animals, riding the train, learning about the different types of animals on the farm, and even had the exciting opportunity to milk some goats! It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience, and the students had a great day.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, we have been continuing our learning about the Zones of Regulation and exploring different sensory tools and strategies we can use to help calm and regulate ourselves. We have also been learning to identify the size of a problem and decide whether it is a small, medium or big problem, helping us choose an appropriate response. We also had a fantastic evening at our URSTRONG Night, where families joined us to learn more about the program and take part in fun activities. Students enjoyed learning how to be Friendship Ninjas and exploring their Friendometer to help build strong and positive friendships.

Book Week

Last week, we also had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week! We enjoyed exploring some fantastic picture storybooks, including Koala Lou, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! and When the Wind Changes. We were very lucky to have author Coral Vass visit our school and share her love of books and storytelling with us. Students also enjoyed some extra reading time in cosy and comfy spaces in and outside the classroom and, of course, the highlight for many was dressing up as their favourite book characters! It was a fantastic week celebrating our love of reading and stories.
