Learning in Year 4

What's happening in Year 4!
đ Swimming
A reminder that Swimming begins next week! Please remember to pack a small swimming bag. Our school swimming lessons will commence next week- Week 8, Monday 31 August and will end in Week 9. To help speed up the changing process, students are encouraged to wear their bathers to school.
Please ensure that:
- All clothing items are clearly labelled with your childâs name.
- Your child knows where to look for their name.
- Students bring a small bag with their swimming items.
Students have some extra snacks or larger portions to help keep them going throughout the day.

đŚ Water Safety Day â Friday 4 September
On Water Safety Day, students are asked to wear a T-shirt and shorts over the top of their bathers. Activities may include using lifejackets, practising rescues and learning about open-water environments. Please note: Goggles will not be worn on Water Safety Day.
Â
đ Fun Day â Friday 11 September
Our final swimming session will be our Fun Day on Friday 11 September!
đ Literacy
In Literacy, students have been working hard on creating their own chapter narrative books. We are now up to the editing stage, where students are rereading their writing, making improvements and preparing their stories for publication and typing.
It has been wonderful to see students developing their vocabulary, character ideas and narrative writing skills throughout this process.
đ˘ Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been learning about location and grid references. Students have been engaged in a range of hands-on activities, including using compasses and playing Battleships to develop their understanding of position, direction and coordinates.
Earlier this term, we also explored measurement, with a focus on capacity. Students had lots of fun investigating capacity in our sensory garden and sandpit, exploring how differently shaped containers can hold the same or different amounts. We also explored capacity conversions and applied our learning through practical activities.
đ Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing learning has focused on friendships, including what makes a positive and supportive friendship and how we can build respectful relationships with others.
We have also been completing our Body Safety lessons in preparation for swimming, helping students understand how to keep themselves safe and make safe choices.
đŤ Integrated Studies
In Integrated Studies, we are about to begin an exciting âPromoting Healthy Bodiesâ Design Project. Students will build on their prior knowledge and learning about the human body systems to explore different ways we can promote healthy bodies. This will include considering the importance of physical activity, healthy eating, sleep and other healthy habits, as well as understanding how our body systems work together.
Students will choose a creative format to communicate their healthy message, such as an infographic poster, advertisement, video or 3D model. They will then have the opportunity to share their designs and ideas with the other Year 4 classes.
We are looking forward to seeing the creative and informative ways our students share their learning!
