Outdoor Learning - Keen Green Team and the Grade 6 Environment Pillar

Kew High Sustainability Summit

On Friday 1st May, at the Kew High Sustainability Summit we had a great time learning about everything from hydroponic farming and STEM connections (The Farm Wall), to making wrappers with beeswax and fabric.  We also heard from many inspirational speakers including Elise Dunstan from Kew High and politicians Monique Ryan and Jess Wilson, as well as Erfan Firouzi  who is youth biodiversity advocate, published author, and environmental storyteller from Monash University.

Attending the event wouldn't have been possible without our parents Grace Lui and Steve Sault who came along for the day. We cannot offer these opportunities without your support. Thank you and your continued support is much appreciated!

Chickens at our school

We have been very lucky to be offered two silky chickens thanks to Dora and her family. Students in KGT have prepared a proposal for having chickens at our school. In order for us to keep our chickens healthy, happy and safe we need families to share in their care. This is especially important for school holidays.

To support our planning could you please contact Claire Ballot at claire.ballot@education.vic.gov.au or Heidi Roast at heidi.roast@education.vic.gov.au

Exciting News from KGT and the Environment Pillar.

We have been informed that we are finalists in the Resource Smart Awards for 2026!

The winners will be announced during a session hosted by Resource Smart Schools  and held at the MCG in June.

To be chosen as a finalist is a real honour and an acknowledgement of the work done by students and families in 2025. All the current grade 6s contributed to this nomination and we are very grateful for their enthusiasm and energy for this program.

Please see the statement below from Resource Smart Schools.

We are delighted to reveal the 36 finalists in the 2026 Resource Smart Schools Awards for this year’s theme, ‘Our sustainable community’, celebrating teachers, students and stakeholders sharing knowledge, passion, and commitment to drive sustainability for a thriving environment.

The judges were impressed with the 95 entries from all around Victoria who entered the awards and have been faced a challenging time selecting finalists across 8 categories.

A reminder that we were the winners of a Victorian School's Garden Award in 2025 - The Most Engaging Garden for Learning. The prize was a $1200 voucher which we will be spending in 2026.

SOFT PLASTICS RECYCLING

Soft plastics recycling continues. We have dedicated bins for soft plastics and encourage students to use these if they need to. If possible, please bring no waste to school.

A special mention to Team F, 1 & 2 who collected a large number of soft plastic items last term.
